David Z David came to the CPP for the first time as a newborn baby with a left sided cleft lip and palate. He had his first surgery at age 2 months with Dr. Orloff and had his palate repaired when he was 19 months old. He doesn’t remember those two surgeries now that he is a young adult, but says having surgery never bothered him—he liked being spoiled!! The question that always stayed with him while growing up was “how did this happen to me?” His mother mentioned that it may have been due to a lunar eclipse while she was pregnant with him. This idea, very common in the Hispanic culture, is of course incorrect. His mother and our geneticist later told him that it sometimes runs in families but that most often there is no known cause. David is now a handsome young man, eager to complete his studies in criminal justice and become either a police officer or join the military. |
